Our product has been a “game-changer” for ML teams, and we’ve run a profitable business from day one without raising venture funding

You’ll join a small, rapidly growing team of engineering leaders and ML practitioners from Google, Meta, Twitter and Airbnb. In this role, you will help make leading models, like Gemini, Llama2, and Claude, better. You’ll work closely with senior researchers and leaders, at some of the biggest companies in the world, to help shape the future of AI models.

The role

As an Analytical Linguist at Surge, you'll play a crucial role in enhancing our ability to create high-quality, nuanced language datasets for training AI models. You'll work at the intersection of linguistics, data analysis, and machine learning to ensure our datasets capture the full complexity and richness of human language.

Key responsibilities

• Analyze linguistic data and lead cross-functional projects to develop and enhance products for strategic customers
• Collaborate with ML teams to understand data needs, conduct AI model output analysis, and develop language-specific tasks and metrics
• Own the execution of data labeling operations for strategic projects, ensuring broad linguistic coverage and quality
• Provide linguistic expertise to solve complex language challenges and give regular progress updates to Surge's executive team
• Work on high-impact problems, developing annotation guidelines and supporting data annotation teams across diverse languages and dialects

What we’re looking for

• Advanced degree in Linguistics or related field, with familiarity in machine learning concepts, particularly language models
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with ability to thrive in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment
• Programming skills (e.g., Python) and experience with data analysis tools are a plus
