🧠Our mission at Surge is to build the human infrastructure to power the next generation of AI.
</aside>
We’re building a platform that powers the biggest AI groups in the world, including OpenAI, Anthropic, Meta, and Google with human feedback data for evaluating and training their models. Surge was founded by former ML engineers focused on providing the highest quality data in the industry to push the state of the art forward. Instead of outsourcing to call centers overseas, we’ve built an elite workforce based in the US, custom annotation tools, and sophisticated quality control systems. Our product has been a “game-changer” for ML teams, and we’ve been able to run a profitable business from day one without raising venture funding.
You’d be joining a small, rapidly growing team of former engineering leaders and ML practitioners from Google, Meta, Twitter and Airbnb. We’re hiring engineers across the stack: front-end, back-end, infra, and applied ML. No AI experience is required, you can learn on the job.
What we’re looking for
- You love building robust, scalable backend systems. You're experienced in designing and implementing efficient data processing pipelines, APIs, and database architectures that can handle large volumes of data.
- You're passionate about performance optimization. You enjoy tackling complex backend challenges and optimizing systems for speed and efficiency.
- You care about the problems we’re trying to solve. You're interested in helping make the next generation of AI models safer and more useful.
- You’re excited about joining a small, growing team. We value autonomy and empower people to do the best work of their career.
Some examples of the problems we are solving
- How can we use the latest AI advances to help make complex annotation tasks more efficient without compromising quality?
- We communicate the results of model evaluations and showcase insights from complex datasets to our clients. What’s the best way to provide this information as efficiently as possible?
- Our data is used to train the next generation of large language models, and our Surgers are expected to read and retain complex documents to understand the rules around safety and helpfulness. What does a product that communicates these instructions in a more interactive way look like?
To apply, please email [email protected] with a resume and 2-3 sentences describing your interest in Surge. We love personal projects and writings too!
